Men's Track & Field Program History

Hinds_Andre_2016

Andre Hinds '16 became the first All-America thrower at Gettysburg since 1998.

One of Gettysburg’s oldest sports, the men’s track and field team has produced its share of all-time greats. The team won Middle Atlantic Conference championships in 1960, 1976 and 1977 and has placed 39 former student-athletes into Gettysburg College’s Hall of Athletic Honor. Additionally, the 1977 men's track and field team was honored as a Team of Distinction in 2018.

Sixteen student-athletes have garnered All-America recognition, including 1993 200-meter dash national champion Arif Husain, who represented Pakistan at the 1992 Olympic Games.

Gettysburg track and field success is not only a thing of the past, however. In 2016, Andre Hinds ’16 became the program’s newest All-American when he finished eighth in the discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The Bullets also earned three medals at the Centennial Conference indoor and outdoor championships in 2013-14, including a gold from David Kaiser '16 in the long jump at the indoor meet. Since the 2018-19 season, the Bullets have captured a combined 15 CC indoor and outdoor medals, which includes CC titles from Steven Heinbaugh '22 and Nicholas Grissinger '21. Heinbaugh registered his first CC crown in the decathlon with a personal record of 5,318, which is the sixth-best outdoor mark at Gettysburg, while Grissinger became the third individual at Gettysburg to win a CC 400-meter hurdles outdoor title, which placed him sixth all-time in the record books. Additionally, three Gettysburg student-athletes have been named Academic All-Americans; most recently, Brad Wiseman ’13 earned third-team honors in 2012 second-team recognition in 2013.
